Character Artist

The original Bioshock team is at it again. Under the direction of Ken Levine, we are setting our sights on outdoing our past achievements and creating a title that will enthrall gamers around the world. With Bioshock's Metacritic rating set at 96, this won't be an easy task. This is why we need you.

As a character artist, it is your job to help create the menagerie of characters that will populate our world. Running the gamut from gorgeous to grotesque, our population will demand meticulous attention to detail and high standards of quality. Your skill will be a key factor in determining whether our characters elicit emotional outbursts from our audience, or fall victim to the uncanny valley.

Job requirements:

  • Thorough working knowledge of competitive 3D packages, preferably 3ds Max
  • Creating high resolution and game resolution 3d character models
  • Creating high resolution and game resolution weapons and character related props
  • Ability to UV both organic and hard surface models
  • Creating character, weapon, and prop shaders in UE3
  • Meeting deadlines, working and contributing effectively in a team environment
  • Collaborating with the Art Director in the creation of consistent, high-quality work

Required skills:

  • Strong modeling ability in Z-Brush or Mudbox
  • Strong understanding of high resolution to game resolution modeling methods
  • Experience creating high resolution textures in Photoshop
  • Deep understanding of anatomy
  • Ability to translate orthographic and concept drawings into fully realized 3D models
  • Ability to take on large and complex tasks and self-manage on time delivery of those tasks.
  • Able to respond elegantly to difficult creative changes, often late in the process
  • Self-motivated towards solving creative problems
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Ability to work within technical constraints and generate top-quality art
  • Clear understanding and implementation of technical guidelines and constraints
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with other departments

Bonus points:

  • Experience with UE3
  • 4+ years in the game industry
  • Traditional art skills, ability to do occasional concept drawings/paintings
  • Experience with traditional sculpture
