Civilization V: Gods & Kings Releases June 19

It's always exciting to announce a release date. It's one of those things that everyone asks for when they're looking forward to an upcoming game, ever hopeful that it's sooner than they fear, and I always have to encourage them to be patient and that the announcement will happen when we're ready. So when I finally get to announce it, I really enjoy it.

What's even more exciting than announcing a release date, however, is announcing a release date that is a mere 10 weeks away. That's right, Civilization V: Gods & Kings will be available in North America on June 19, and internationally on June 22!

So get your religion-spreading, espionage-laden strategies ready, because the changes and new features in the Gods & Kings expansion are really going to force you to re-think how you conquer the world. For those of you who missed it, check out our Civilization V: Gods & Kings announcement for a list of the new stuff coming in this expansion.

Finally, if you're dying to learn more details about the expansion, you should definitely keep your eyes on our Facebook page, official forums, or Twitter, because I'll be revealing a lot of fun stuff in the coming weeks!

I am very interested in the new EP, but have a couple of questions.

1. Is there a choice of male or female leaders of the same civilization when starting the game?

2. Has there been a rework of where land based wonders being built? I.E. Stonehenge being built in water tiles.

As others have stated, most of this should have been included with the original game.
I'm not going to condone this blatant obsolescence that has plagued developers that used to create phenomenal work, such as Maxis and BioWare.
You would not pay full price for a bicycle that has no handle bars or a seat cover, so I will not be paying full price for this game, my purchase of Civ IV is still enough in my book. At least Civ IV has a more than capable modding community which makes Civ IV full of content, for FREE, as opposed to 2K which will cut out a more than substantial amount of the content to be resold as DLC.

Make an expansion that has legitimately innovative content, add in new civs and features that have never been in a civ game before, or at the very least, bundle the old ones you didn't have time to do with new features, not just shiny new graphics. The city states were an interesting feature, sell that as DLC, but don't rehash old content such as religion, and old civs, which were standard in the old games, to drain your customers of every cent they have. That's the point of making a sequel, is it not? To build on what you've already done?

Perhaps I'm being too harsh, perhaps the religion and espionage features will be truly interesting and worth the money, but this is borderline money grubbing in my opinion, and they'd have to make the features truly interesting to excuse this.
For a game which was so ground breaking for it's time, this is just sad to see.

@Joehtosis Well, that's a sure way to make myself look like an idiot, double posting. If a mod could delete this, that'd be great lol.

This can't come soon enough!

Like someone on Facebook commented, it seems irresponsible to sell an expansion pack to a game that is not working as expected as released.

What's worse there isn't an admission that Civ V slows to a crawl after about turn 200, many times earlier. This happens even for high end machines.

My suggestion, acknowledge the problem with the original release, fix this problem and finally offer a free or discounted copy of the expansion pack. I suspect those actions will go a long way to ensure the Civ franchise's long term viability and profitability. IMHO.

@richcruz Doesn't happen for me, and my laptop's a piece of crap. Pretty sure your technical difficulties are not a threat to the Civ franchise's long term viability and profitability.

@richcruz On any map size larger than Normal (esp Huge) the game slows
to an exasperating degree. Sucks because Huge maps are the best to play on. Just the way it has always been. I stick with normal or small maps and everything runs fine.

@stratohs But I am crazy excited about Gods and Kings. 100% will buy on release date.
