Among the games we're showing at E3, XCOM is one that surely is getting a lot of attention (which isn't surprising, since in my humble opinion the demo we've got is badass.) If you haven't already seen our E3 trailer, check it out on our YouTube channel - but assuming that you have already seen the new footage, now you can have an inside look at the room where we're giving our demo.
Harvey Whitney and Drew Smith, Producers on the title, are showing off the pristine world of XCOM - set in the 1950s, where life was simple and good. Drew starts off the presentation by saying "first, I'll show you the XCOM that you know," as Harvey leads the character through the XCOM base. Then, Drew says, "now I'll show you the XCOM that you don't know," and mayhem ensues.
When you step into a demo room in the 2K Booth, you immerse yourself in that game world - it's one of the things I've always loved about our spaces at conventions - we bring the world alive and sit you down in it. You may be watching a giant TV screen with surround sound, but looking to your left or right, you realize that you are actually in that 1950s kitchen from our E3 trailer, sitting just behind where the woman with super-creepy eyes was chopping carrots. And while the demo begins calmy enough in the XCOM base while you weigh the pros and cons of each available mission, by the end of the presentation the tension built to a point that a lot of people (including myself) forgot to breathe.
With all my jabbering, you probably want to read some previews of that demo for yourself. Never fear - I can supply you with enough links to sate you for a while.
